22 U-15 female youth footballers from western China started a three-week intensive training program in Germany as part of the Young Phoenix Project aimed at promoting football development and cultural exchange.联系我们
HERZOGENAURACH, Germany, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- 22 members of an under-15 women's youth football team from western China commenced a three-week intensive training program on Monday at Adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
At the welcome ceremony, Adidas CEO Bjoern Gulden, a former football player, warmly greeted the Chinese group. He expressed his delight at seeing the young players from China in Germany and hoped they would enjoy the experience, as "playing football is the best and most fun thing."
"Sports unite different cultures and play a crucial role in today's challenging world. Exchange programs like this help build bridges through football and sports," he said.
Fan Yunjie, technical director of the team and a former member of China's women's national football team, told Xinhua that the program allows children from western China to go global and receive high-level training.
"As a former female football player, I know how precious it is for the young players to have such a great opportunity at such a young age," she said. "I hope our players can learn, communicate and improve more."
Team captain Wang Chenxi, 14, who started playing football at the age of 9, is from Zizhong County, Sichuan Province. She told Xinhua she feels honored and cherishes the opportunity to train abroad.
"For this training camp, I want to perform at my best and interact with players from other countries. I want to improve my skills as a winger. I also hope to represent young women's football players from western China and showcase our skills," she said.
The Young Phoenix Project, guided by the General Administration of Sport of China and co-sponsored by the Chinese Football Association, China Football Development Foundation, and Adidas China, began in January with a winter camp in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province.
Nearly 100 young female players from Guizhou, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing participated, with 22 selected to train in Germany. The young players will continue to train at Bayern Munich Club and participate in related exchange activities. ■
